Gynecology
Dr. Madhuri Kurup is a board-certified OB/GYN with a special interest in minimally invasive surgery at Columbus Ob/Gyn Inc. She has been in practice for more than 20 years. She has been board certified in obstetrics and gynecology in India, the United Kingdom, as well as in the USA. As noted, she received her initial medical school education in India, followed by residencies in the UK as well as in the US at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia. She has a clinical focus in minimally invasive gynecological surgery, especially robotic surgery, and is one of the first to perform such surgeries in an ambulatory care setting in Central Ohio.
It has been shown that these surgeries are often shorter, recovery is faster and the infection rate is half compared to those performed in hospitals. It also provides her patients with a better experience and allows them to be able to go home the same day.
She has held multiple leadership positions, including Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mount Carmel East, peer review chairman at the same setting, as well as chair of the OB collaborative. She is actively involved in policymaking, and quality improvement projects in the obstetrics and gynecological field. Dr Kurup is a great champion for women, as well as younger physicians for whom she devotes time for mentorship. She is also an associate professor of student education at Ohio University. She lives in Gahanna with her husband, who is a colorectal surgeon. She loves to travel, helps her husband with his photography projects, and takes care of her elderly mother.
